Monday's Muse 2017-01-03

Not quite Monday, but technically yesterday was a holiday. Not that I'm getting paid for this, so really, I have to ask, a holiday from what, exactly?

Anyhoo.

Apparently if you want to write a book about a Wild West Mail Order Bride, you have to make everyone really dumb. It was a simpler time, so people talked in a simpler manner, which means that their vocabulary was really tiny, and for Gosh Darn Sake's, don't use any big words 'cause no one will understand them, and it should not matter whether the person's talkin' or thinkin'; even the thoughts have to be dumb. Simpler times = dumb. And stupid. And even the edercated have to talk dumb, like, so that the reg'lar folks ken understands 'em.

Somebody give me a frickin' 6-shooter.

Monday's Muse 2016-12-05. And Some Random Shtuff.

I have nothing snarky, today. Probably because for once I'm not tired, exhausted, fatigued, or bitchy. Yes, I need that much redundancy; it all applies equally and differently.

I was cleaning off my dresser yesterday because I thought that maybe it's a bit unfair to require my children to keep their rooms clean when mine is a disaster. I mean, washing, drying, and folding-ish my clothes is sometimes too much, never mind actually putting it away.

That, and my blouses were getting wrinkly. And, I couldn't find a pair of socks. I mean, sure, I could find 15 socks, but none of them actually matched. Although there were a couple days that I didn't care. Okay, more than a couple.

I digress.

I found a book called 642 Things to Write About by the San Francisco Writers' Grotto.

I bought it in either February 4th or April 2nd, 2015. The receipt's still in it. I think I've looked at it every now and then, and probably thought, "these might be good writing exercises." At least someone else would be coming up with the ideas.

All I seem to be able to think about lately is kid stuff, like laundry and lunches and getting out the door on time in the mornings and seriously if you don't stop wrecking your toys I'm going to give them all away and what sticky mess did you just touch me with?
Except for when I'm driving. I come up with some pretty cool writing ideas when I'm driving, but I can never remember what was making me laugh out loud all by myself in the car. Or, maybe I'm just crazy. Whichever.

So then I thought, since my usual Muse seems a bit busy lately, and even though I could go on and on and on and on and on about some of the really bad writing I've had the gag me pleasure of reading (BMBR's coming to a computer near you real soon. Or not. You've seen my track record!) lately, how about I use this book as my muse for a while?

642 things. One thing a week. That would only take - -no that can't be right - 12.35 years? 😅😭

Oh. No. Not Monday's Muse.

Wednesday's Writers' Workshop.

Because I could go on and on and on and on about some of the "SRSLY" how the eff did you get published? crap out there. (And yes, seriously must be spelled this way in this instance.) So I don't want to get rid of Monday's Muse just yet.

Topic One, from Page One: What can happen in a second.

See you Wednesday!

https://k12.thoughtfullearning.com/resources/writingtopics#Grade 5

Creepy crawly things.

John Saul, Dean Koontz and Stephen King can run with this. And, they're making a killing at it, too (or maybe that's a hopeful writer's assumption).

So, they are actually prepping the grade fiver for success!

Muse Monday 2015-08-03

I want to write speeches for Miss USA contestants! I really, really do!

When asked about anything more complicated than putting on makeup, or than clothing choices for specific occasions, just say that it's not in the Bible, or that you don't agree with it at all!

And since nothing is more complicated than putting on makeup, really, you should be fine!

Monday's Muse 2015-06-01

The kids in my son's preschool class!

Who wouldn't want to read a book written by four-year-olds? I mean, it would be non-stop action, full of creativity, a conversational dream, and it would be full of so many plot twists, the Networks would sit up and take notice!

Monday's Muse 2015-05-18

The Voices in my Head.

They come up with some pretty interesting stuff.

Like, how to use "like" in a sentence properly, if you, like, grew up in, like, that decade that was like, a couple decades ago.

They also have this thing going in a New Adult novel where an assassin and an unaware innocent meet and fall in love and overcome all kinds of odds and emotional dysfunctions to make things work, except get this: the assassin is the girl!

Actually, I might get cracking on that one.

Monday's Muse 2015-03-30

The lyrics of "Undisclosed Desires" by Muse.

Yep. Perfect storyline! My heroine is going to prove to the WORLD that her "temperamental" antagonist is worthy of everyone's love, not just hers!

Except, instead of temperamental we're going to describe him as mercurial to prove that we, like, have a good vocabulary.

And, we're going to be the new Fifty Shades.

This is going to sell!

Monday's Muse 2015-03-23

According to my Muse, there is an easy way to deal with writer's block! I'm not entirely sure that this should apply to the children's book I'm writing, but I'll trust her.

Monday's Muse 2015-02-02

I went through today's Amazon recommendations, and two of the stories are about plucky heroines that inherit a hotel/inn, and then try to not fall in love with the guy that thinks that he should have inherited, or the guy that broke her heart when she was sixteen and visiting Nana or whoever owned the inn beforehand.

Awesome! That sounds like an easy enough story to write, and since it's a guaranteed publishing in, done!

Muse Monday

My muse hath spoken again.

She gives such great advice, doesn't she? I love that she's on the same page as I am about the "dream resolution".

I don't know how else I would've ended my story about about how the world is dying and it's climate is producing an environment that is conducive to the growth of slime molds and wicked awesome bacteria that can devour an entire cow in about 10 minutes in such a way as to not, like, totally freak out my readers!

Whew!

Monday's Muse 2014-09-29

My Muse has said that my entire book must be scrapped unless each characters' names are super symbolic, which is good because if she'd said that I should use plain names I'd have to scrap my book for sure.

Here's a run-down of who all is in When Winter Comes by Spinny Tupper:

Angelica Snow is the sweet girl stuck in the small town of Littleton, Dom Masters is the Mayor who is attracted to her pale good looks and is determined to teach Angelica all about what she wants.

Sybil Mercury is Dom's manic depressive wife who is jealous, but is she jealous of Angelica, or is she jealous of Dom?

Jack Winter is the new guy in town, and he just might be cold enough to show Angelica what she really needs.

Torn in three directions, Angelica needs to decide who will show her heart if it should stay in or get out of Littleton.

And don't forget about Tom. He's watching Angelica all the time, so he'll know what happens When Winter Comes.

I Have a New Muse!

The Worst Muse@WorstMuse

I mean really, how could you possibly go wrong with this advice?

Janet Brockwood had had enough. She was done. Done with this whole war. She was never going to fight with another enemy again. Mostly because an arrow speared her delicious bosom about three inches above her armoured bustier, and she was bleeding out, but hey, she was sexy as hell.

Nope, not wrong at all!
